We’ve spent the better part of February Cold-Calling individuals in the wonderful world of science in hope of getting the opportunity to speak with them and hear their personal stories. “Why science?” you might be asking yourself. Well, over the past ten years of creating our documentary series, we’ve been so fortunate in our opportunities to meet passionate Leaders from all across the country and share their compelling stories. As we’ve come to this juncture of our journey, we’ve realized how under-represented the dynamic fields of science, technology, engineering, and math have been.
Why is it that when we think of science, some of the most immediate pictures that come to mind are of people in stiff lab coats who speak in numbers? Though this may be true to some extent, there are so many more interesting and exciting facets to science. For example, Ray recently reached out to Marco Tempest, the Technoillusionist. He’s been able to combine computer-generated imagery, video, music, and stagecraft to his profession. Who would have thought that science and performance art could be coupled in such a way? Or, what about David Saltzburg, hopefully our first Leader interview for our new show. It’s amazing that he’s found a way to use his love for physics in the hit television show, The Big Bang Theory.
As a challenge to ourselves as curious Roadtrippers and explorers, we’d like to learn more about the unique individuals who take science to another level. We’re excited to have you along for the ride and hope you’ll enjoy the discovery process just as much as we do. We’re excited for this new adventure, and we hope that you know how important you are to this whole process. We’ve loved all of your participation, support, and feedback. Please keep it coming! We want to continue to foster these areas of engagement because you, our community, are so valuable to us!
